ACS Recognition of Global Programs
The ACS program for Recognition of Global Programs in Chemical Sciences promotes excellence in undergraduate chemistry education for institutions outside the United States. Programs that receive this recognition offer a broad-based and rigorous chemistry education that gives students intellectual, experimental, and communication skills to become effective scientific professionals.
The role of the ACS Committee on Professional Training (CPT) is to establish guidelines and set standards for ACS approval of bachelor’s degree programs in chemistry at institutions in the United States. The committee has developed an analogous set of international guidelines for the use of chemistry programs outside of the United States. Programs that align with these guidelines receive ACS Recognition.
Benefits of ACS Recognition
Using the ACS International Guidelines as a standard, ACS Global Recognition provides a mechanism for programs to:
- Enhance their reputations as providers of top-quality undergraduate chemistry education.
- Stand out and compete for the best candidates locally, and globally.
- Leverage feedback received from the application process to receive additional support from their institutions.
- Improve the competitiveness of their students seeking acceptance into top postgraduate programs internationally.
- Forge sustaining partnerships with institutions abroad.
